Who can forget the 2008 market crash in US. At least, nobody in Singapore can ever, as the Singapore Exchange crashed by 56% and it took this exchange nearly two years to recover. Ironically, Singapore exchange use to be famous for being the most liquid exchange of Asia.

The Singapore Exchange (SGX) was formed on 1 December 1999. SGX was formed by combination of three entities, Stock Exchange of Singapore, Singapore International Monetary Exchange and Securities Clearing And Computer Services.

SGX started with an estimate of 400 companies, today this number has reached to 672. SGX is also very famous for delisting, as within last 10 years there have been 302 delisting compared to just 279 news listings.

SGX has a market cap 55Lakh Crores, but still its biggest drawback remains that 40% of companies on SGX are foreign and that was precisely the reason it saw such a big fall in 2008.
