The fall and rise of the Chinese Stock Market:

Britishers colonised India and various other parts of the world including australia, sri lanka and even China. The opium wars between britishers and China was primarily a war for trading.

In 1842, When China lost to Britain the First Opium war, several new developments started to happen in China. One of that was the introduction of stock market trading. Finally, In 1891, the Shanghai Sharebrokers' Association was established, creating China's first stock exchange (today known as the Shanghai Stock Exchange).

During the great depression, in 1929, Chinese stock market was getting over powered by the Japanese using the rubber as a primary stock. In 1941, the Japanese military took control of Shanghai and the stock market ceased operation. However, in 1949, the exchange once again opened however, a bigger villain was on its way to destroy Chinese stock market for 4 decades.

Mao Zeodang or Chairman Mao led the communist revolution in China and as part of his radical economic revolution, public investments and private ownership was abolished. Up until Mao and his hardline communist party was alive Chinese Market was closed down and forgotten forever.

But then emerged a leader with vision that has made China the second largest stock market in the world today by market cap. After Mao's death in 1976, Deng Xiaoping took over and ed China away from a planned economy and Maoist ideologies, opened it up to foreign investment.

In this new China, stock market was once again reopened in 1990. Today China has Beijing Stock Exchange. Shanghai Stock Exchange. Shenzhen Stock Exchange. Today China's is the second largest economy based on both GDP and Market Capitalization, second only to US.
